一九六一年生於靜岡縣。筑波大學第二學群比較文化學類畢業。九〇年以《我是輝夜姬》獲海燕新人文學獎，九二年以《至高聖所》獲芥川獎。著作有《明天，在旅人之樹下》、《誕生》、《茶道少主京都出走》，以及奇幻作品《紫之沙漠》、《詩人之夢》，散文集《生手茶人的寶盒》、《在京都讀徒然草》等。
